Fencing FAQs

How do you attach a Trellis to a fence?

There are a few ways you can attach a trellis to a fence:

  1. Use screws or nails to attach the trellis directly to the fence. Make sure to use screws or nails that are long enough to go through both the trellis and the fence.
  2. Use fence staples to secure the trellis to the fence. These are U-shaped staples that can be driven into the fence using a hammer.
  3. Use cable (zip) ties to attach the trellis to the fence. Simply wrap the cable ties around the trellis and the fence, and then tighten them to secure the trellis in place.
  4. Use garden twine or wire to tie the trellis to the fence. This method is not as secure as the others, but it can work if the trellis is not too heavy.

No matter which method you choose, be sure to attach the trellis securely so that it does not come loose or fall over.

How deep should a fence post be?

The depth of a fence post depends on a number of factors, including the type of fence, the size of the post, the soil type and conditions, and the climate. In general, it is a good idea to set fence posts at least 2 feet deep, especially for taller fences. However, in some cases, such as in very soft or wet soil, it may be necessary to set the posts even deeper to provide sufficient support. It is also a good idea to use a concrete mix which contains Portland cement and special additives together with sharp sand and 10mm gravel to secure the posts in place, especially for taller fences or in areas with high winds.

Can you drill into a concrete fence post?

Yes, it is possible to drill into concrete fence posts. However, it can be a challenging task, as concrete is a very hard and dense material. You will need to use a hammer drill or rotary hammer drill, as well as a masonry bit that is designed for drilling into concrete. It is important to use the right type of drill bit and to apply steady, even pressure while drilling to avoid damaging the bit or the fence post. You may also need to use a lubricant, such as water or oil, to help cool the bit and prevent it from overheating. It is also a good idea to wear protective gear, such as safety glasses and earplugs, when drilling into concrete.
